On May
26, 2009, the City of Chandler inducted Chandler Service Club and its
eight founding members into Celebration Plaza at Tumbleweed Park.
Celebration Plaza is a permanent monument that is designated as a place
to recognize up to three organizations or individuals each year for
their civic leadership, public outreach and outstanding personal service
and commitment to the community. Chandler Service Club’s plaque is the
only one to be installed for 2008. The City Parks and Recreation Board
unanimously recommended Chandler Service Club for recognition because it
differs from many other civic clubs in that it is a "home grown"
organization created by eight individuals to meet a need they saw in the
community in 1933. The City recognized the lasting contributions
of Chandler Service Club which have made Chandler a better place to
live. Mayor Boyd Dunn; City Council Members Rick Heumann, Jeff
Weninger and Trinity Donovan (also an Active Member of Chandler Service
Club); and other managers of City departments were a part of the
induction ceremony. Special guests at the ceremony and reception that followed were Suzan Beer O'Neill, her brother Paul Beer and his family, children and descendents of Founding Member Louise "Sue" Beer, and Virginia "Ginger" Fogal Schuff, daughter of Founding Member Eleanor Fogal, and Ginger's husband Richard Schuff. Also attending the ceremony were Life Members Barbara Knox, Barbara Bogle, Audrey Ryan and Joan Saba; Associate Member Patty Buessing; and Active Members Susan Weinberger, Charlotte Quintana, Beth Herbert, Patti Poe, Gwen Rusk, Rochelle Ryan, Trinity Donovan, Vangie Blake and Betty Rolon.
